As a mother of 5 children, my career in spray tanning started in 2005 as a hobby. I then closed down for a whole year during which time, I did a hairdressing and beauty course. After only completing 4 months of hairdressing and 7 weeks of make-up, I quit the courses due to the responsibilities of being a single mother and found it extremely hard to continue with the courses.
One day I had a vision on spray tanning - it was like a voice was telling me to get back into spray tanning. I did research on spray tanning and ways of marketing a tanning solution which I had been using in 2005 that no other salon in the Northern Suburbs had known of.
Two weeks before Melbourne Cup November 2006, I opened up to the public in which I advertised in two newspapers and traded under the tanning solution name and that's how my business started. I promoted the solution at my own expenses undercutting myself just to get customers to try the spray tan and also exhibiting at several expos - and until today have had no recognition from the Company who supply me with the tanning solution for all the hard work I did in promoting the product where several other tanning salons within the Northern Suburbs are now using.
During 2007, I completed other beauty courses to further expand my business in which time I then changed my business name to Antoinette's Indulgence Tanning & Beauty as I no longer wanted to promote the solution, but in actual fact promote myself.
Over the last 3 years, it has been hard work in finding ways to promote myself. Trading as a home business, you need to get out there - "work just doesn't come to you" and with the passion I have for spray tanning and my technique, as many of my existing clients know, is something I believe that other salons don't have as it's not about the tanning solution that is used but it is how the solution is applied and the service given to customers on how to maintain their tan and that's why my business has expanded with recommendations.
As it is convenient at this stage to run my business from home until my 3 youngest children grow up a little, my goal and dream is to have a shop located in a shopping strip with people working for me and also my own brand tanning solution and if all goes well am hoping this will be within the next two years.
My professional salon at home is like a shop the only difference is that I'm not located in a shopping centre or shopping strip, so for those that have had a bad experience in their spray tan, have never had a spray tan before or would like to try my spray tanning out - read the testimonials and come and try me out.
